samenvatting:	This research develops a pilot mapping of LGBTQ+ nightlife spaces published in the report LGBTQ+ nightlife in London : 1986 to the present (2016). Both projects have been undertaken by UCL Urban Laboratory, a university-wide centre for research, teaching and public engagement on cities worldwide. The pilot research was designed in collaboration with LGBTQ+ community organisations Raze Collective (representing LGBTQ+ performers) and Queer Spaces Network (a group interested in preserving and supporting spaces for the LGBTQ+ community). The pilot research looked at LGBTQ+ nightlife in London from 1986 - when the Greater London Council was disbanded, marking a shift in urban regeneration policy - to the present day, a time of wide reporting and activism around the closure of commercial LGBTQ+ spaces. It evidenced, for the first time, the recent intensity of closures among London's LGBTQ+ nightlife spaces, with significant impacts on the most longstanding and community-valued venues. It also highlighted that spaces catering to women and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) LGBTQ+ people have been disproportionately vulnerable to closure. The pilot project emphasised the continuing risk to many LGBTQ+ nightlife venues, including those that survey evidence showed the London LGBTQ+ community deemed to be of most value. The research presented evidence of the diversity of the capital's LGBTQ+ nightlife as an important contributor to neighbourhoods, the night-time economy and culture. It showed the importance of nightlife venues and events to community life, welfare and wellbeing.

samenvatting:	Experiences of ageing and care are closely tied to structural location in terms of race, class, gender and sexuality among others. In South Africa, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people's experiences of ageing and care are profoundly influenced by the patriarchal, postapartheid context. This study, the first of its kind in South Africa, was an exploratory study of the experiences of ageing and care among LGBT elders in two provinces in South Africa. Findings indicate that LGBT elders' experiences of ageing and care are influenced by intersectionality and lack of access to care. In particular, the ageing and care experiences of black and Coloured LGBT elders, especially lesbian, bisexual and transgender women, are disproportionately impacted. Implications of these exploratory findings are that national ageing and care policies need to specifically name LGBT elders as a key group and that services be rolled out for LGBT elders.

samenvatting:	In Black Trans Feminism Marquis Bey offers a meditation on blackness and gender nonnormativity in ways that recalibrate traditional understandings of each. Theorizing black trans feminism from the vantages of abolition and gender radicality, Bey articulates blackness as a mutiny against racializing categorizations; transness as a nonpredetermined, wayward, and deregulated movement that works toward gender's destruction; and black feminism as an epistemological method to fracture hegemonic modes of racialized gender. In readings of the essays, interviews, and poems of Alexis Pauline Gumbs, jayy dodd, Venus Di'Khadija Selenite, and Dane Figueroa Edidi, Bey turns black trans feminism away from a politics of gendered embodiment and toward a conception of it as a politics grounded in fugitivity and the subversion of power. Together, blackness and transness actualize themselves as on the run from gender. In this way, Bey presents black trans feminism as a mode of enacting the wholesale dismantling of the world we have been given.

samenvatting:	On April 22, 2021, the editors of this special issue interviewed activists Sean Saifa Wall and Pidgeon Pagonis. Sean Saifa Wall is a Black intersex and transgender activist known as the cofounder of Intersex Justice Project. Over the past decade, Pidgeon Pagonis rose to visibility as an activist on behalf of intersex people. They created viral content, two films, cocreated the Intersex Justice Project, and currently are wrapping up a memoir. Today, they're embarking on the journey of a lifetime: figuring out their life's purpose(s) post intersex activism. Wall and Pagonis cofounded the Intersex Justice Project (IJP) with Lynnell Stephani Long in 2016. In addition to centering Black and Brown liberation, IJP collaborates with activists in the Global South and uses direct action to end nonconsensual surgeries performed on minors. Among IJP's accomplishments, perhaps the most notable is their historic #EndIntersexSurgery campaign.

I want to dedicate my remarks today to Andre Fallon, a dear friend of mine, who was a grassroots freedom fighter against homohatred and erotophobia who died of HIV-related complications last November, but who always made it a point to attend Creating Change, wherever it was held. Also, Ms. Tyra, a trans person, a genderqueer in DC, who was left to die by a transphobic fire department. And to Essex Hemphill, writer and Black gay sex radical. And to Nat Turner, slave rebellion leader on the day of his execution. And those who were here last year but are not here. Those who are in the closet or afraid to be here. Those who didn't have the means to be here or whatever. In solidarity with the strikers, and with a little old White man in Baltimore who told me "It's true we do have to stand in solidarity, the police are taking over in the United States." To the living and the dead we bear witness. We are here; many think that we are not even supposed to exist, but we are here. And we serve notice on the world today, that we are here, that we are not going anywhere that we do not want to go...
